TRUSTED SERVICE PROVIDER
Good Information Management is impossible without good security
At TIMG, we fully comprehend the significant data security threats that arise during the disposal of IT assets and e-Waste. This is why we ensure that our business adheres to strict policies around security and compliance. Our security accreditations undergo external audits and we do not compromise on them within the organisation. In addition, we conduct our own internal testing as part of that compliance.
The TIMG Document Destruction Process: Step-by-Step
Identify items for destruction
Understanding your legal obligations regarding document retention periods is a vital part of your overall Information Management plan. TIMG can assist you with identifying, sorting, and transporting paper documents and physical files designated for secure destruction.
Items collected by TIMG
Our security-vetted staff will collect and transport your documents and records to our facility for destruction. All items in our custody are transported by TIMG staff in locked, alarmed, and GPS-tracked TIMG-owned vehicles, ensuring the highest level of security.
Compulsory Cooling-Off Period
We implement a compulsory cooling-off period after receiving a client’s documents marked for destruction. Destruction will only occur after the client confirms their decision. This period allows the client to review and double-check any decisions before the permanent destruction of their records.

Secure document destruction is essential for protecting sensitive information, maintaining compliance with data protection laws, and reducing the risk of data breaches. Sensitive documents such as financial records, client information, or personnel files, if not destroyed properly, could lead to identity theft or corporate espionage. Accredited services like those offered by TIMG ensure that documents are shredded beyond reconstruction and that destruction processes comply with Australian privacy regulations (such as the Privacy Act 1988).
With every destruction job carried out by TIMG, there is oversight and process in place to ensure that the correct information and data is being destroyed. On completion of secure destruction, we issue a Certificate of Destruction as confirmation. This is a legally defensible document of proof of secure destruction.
In July 2006, Freightways Limited (FRE), our parent company based in New Zealand, acquired the Australian information management firm, DataBank Technologies Pty Ltd (DataBank).
Subsequently, within that year, a rebranding initiative was undertaken, and we were renamed as TIMG (The Information Management Group). It is worth noting that this transition was seamless for DataBank’s clients, with no disruption to service operations, ensuring business continuity for all existing clients. In 2007, we introduced Archive Security as a pre-paid storage service and Archive Security clients automatically became TIMG clients. Similarly, FileSaver clients became TIMG clients with the acquisition of FileSaver back in 2011. For more information on our evolution as a business, watch this short video.
An accredited document destruction service typically involves the secure collection, shredding, and recycling of documents. For example, TIMG offers secure bins placed onsite for document collection, which are then securely transported to their facility for shredding. The process includes chain-of-custody tracking, and clients receive a Certificate of Destruction as proof of compliance. Such services are crucial for maintaining proper information governance by ensuring that sensitive data does not end up in the wrong hands.
